Coconut Shells – Turning Waste into Clean Energy

At Green Spot Investment, we believe in finding value where others see waste. That’s why in 2020, we introduced coconut shells as an alternative industrial fuel for our clients in the textile and edible oil industries.

Traditionally, many factories relied heavily on firewood — a practice that contributes to deforestation and higher energy costs. By switching to coconut shells, we’ve helped industries reduce the cutting of trees while also saving significantly on electricity bills.

Our coconut shells are sourced from Kenya’s Coast Region, where coconuts are abundant. We work closely with local women and youth who collect the shells, providing them with a steady source of income. To ensure a consistent and reliable supply, we partnered with Kentaste, the largest coconut oil factory in the region. For them, the shells were once waste — now, they are a valuable, eco-friendly fuel source.
